    Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Scott Rynne is in his sixth season with the Tufts staff. In 2010, the Jumbo defense included All-Conference performers Ferras Albitar and Sam Diss. Rynne was previously the offensive coordinator and receivers coach for the Jumbos. Prior to coming to Tufts, he was the interim head football coach at Pomona-Pitzer College in California. He has also coached at Union College and Susquehanna University. An assistant on the Tufts men’s lacrosse coaching staff, Rynne’s extensive experience in that sport includes the head women’s job at Pomona-Pitzer and the head men’s job at Susquehanna. A 1991 graduate of Williams College, Rynne was part of the Ephs’ back-to-back undefeated football seasons in 1989-90. He was the team’s Most Valuable Player as a center. Rynne and his wife Lisa reside in Charlestown, Massachusetts.

    New to the staff this year, Kevin Farr is the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach. The defensive coordinator at Saint Lawrence University for the past nine seasons, Farr was part of a St. Lawrence team that won the Liberty League Championship and earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament last year. The Saints were ranked first in the conference for scoring defense, take-aways, rushing defense and total defense. A native of the Binghamton, New York area, Farr is a 1999 graduate of Hobart College where he played defensive back. He started coaching right out of college at Siena in 1999, moved to the University of New Hampshire as linebackers coach in 2000, and then in 2001 began his tenure at St. Lawrence. Recently married, Kevin and his wife Jessica live in Marlborough.

    After three years as a graduate assistant coach at Tufts during which he coached the defensive line, Rob Velasquez was promoted to full-time during the off-season and will serve as the recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach. A four-year captain and center for Endicott College, he graduated with a Fine Arts degree in 2006. Velasquez was on the University’s first football team in 2003 and helped build the Gulls into a competitive program with back-to-back winning seasons in 2004 and 2005. Velasquez played professionally in Ireland for a year before returning to the States and beginning his coaching career at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. Originally from Colorado, Velasquez is pursuing a master’s degree in education at Tufts and lives in Medford.



  • Mike Daly - Defensive Line

    Mike Daly, head coach of the two-time NCAA finalist men’s lacrosse team at Tufts, is in his 16th season as a football assistant. After several successful years directing football’s kicking teams, Daly will work with the defensive line this year. He is a 1995 Tufts graduate who caught 84 passes for 1,415 yards and 11 touchdowns in his career as a receiver. Also a baseball player, he was the University’s Fobert Award winner as the top multi-sport athlete in 1995. From Westfield, Massachusetts, Daly guided the men’s lacrosse team to the University’s first-ever NCAA team championship in 2010. The team returned to the NCAA final in 2011. He is a two-time conference Coach of the Year in lacrosse. Mike, his wife Norah, daughter Fiona and son Liam live in Reading.






  • Tony Fucillo - Wide Receivers

    Tony Fucillo joined the Tufts staff as wide receivers coach last year. Father of record-setting Tufts quarterback and 2010 graduate Anthony Fucillo, Tony coached at nearby Winthrop High School for 35 years, including as head coach from 1987-2006. He retired after leading Winthrop to the 2006 Massachusetts Division 2A Super Bowl title. Fucillo was inducted into the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in April 2011. A defensive back at Xavier University in Ohio, Tony and his wife Carolyn have three children and live in Winthrop.









  • Justin Cross - Tight Ends/Offensive Line Assistant

    Tight ends coach and offensive line assistant Justin Cross is in his second year on the staff. He played five years (1982-86) in the NFL as an offensive lineman for the Buffalo Bills. A 1981 graduate of Western State College in Colorado, Cross was an American Football Coaches Association First Team All-American and was inducted into the Western State Hall of Fame. Another newlywed on the Tufts staff, Justin and his wife Megan live in Melrose. Originally from New Castle, New Hampshire, Cross is also a Captain for Jet Blue Airways.









  • Ashleigh Davenport - Running Backs

    Running backs coach Ashleigh Davenport is in his 11th year on the Tufts staff.  A 1985 graduate of Boston University, he was a tailback on the 1983 and 1984 Terrier teams that played in the NCAA IAA Playoffs. Originally from New York, his previous coaching experience included stints at Mount Ida and at UMass-Boston. Davenport is also the head baseball coach at MassBay Community College. He works full-time in real estate and lives in Watertown.

    Graduate assistant coach Tom Beaton is in his second year with the Jumbo staff. He was a co-captain and All-NESCAC selection at Bates in 2009, and ranked 10th in the NESCAC in receiving yards per game (56.6) and ninth in all-purpose yards per game (104.0). Tom is from West Newbury, Massachusetts.

    First-year defensive assistant Rich Gunnell is Boston College’s all-time leader in receiving yards with 2,459 and is second all-time with 181 receptions. He was signed as a free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL in 2010. The East Windsor, New Jersey native prepped at Notre Dame High School Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
