MEDFORD – Three members of the Tufts University men's rowing team have been named to the 2018 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference teams announced today. Seniors Thomas Hendrickson and Andrew MacMillen are on the first team, while senior Ashton Knight earned second team honors.
This is the second straight year that head coach Noel Wanner's quickly-improving Tufts men's team has placed two on the All-Conference first team and received three honors total. Last year's three awards were the most ever and the Jumbos repeated the feat this season.
NESCAC has announced an All-Conference team since 2010. The 10-member squads are comprised of individuals from the eight league teams based on each team's finish at the NESCAC championships, which are held in conjunction with the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC). Tufts was third among conference teams this spring.
Hendrickson, McMillen and Knight were all members of the Jumbo first varsity eight. Tufts was behind only Bates and Williams in the NESCAC Championship. MacMillen sat in the seventh seat, Hendrickson was in the five seat and Knight was at the bow. The Jumbos won the petite final in 5:58.144 after missing a spot in the grand final by the narrowest of margins. Tufts was second in the team point trophy standings at the NIRC, behind only Hobart.
The Tufts 1V8 finaled at the New England Rowing Championships a week earlier.
