Sorkin in Singles, Niemiec/Pentousis in Doubles Play on at Men's Tennis ITA's

Freshman Paris Pentousis was part of a doubles win for Tufts

MIDDLEBURY, VT – Sophomore Boris Sorkin in singles and the doubles tandem of junior Nathan Niemiec and freshman Paris Pentousis will play for the Tufts University men's tennis team on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships.

Hosted by Middlebury College, the ITA regional meet features a 64-man singles bracket and a 32-team doubles draw. Two singles rounds and one doubles round were contested on Friday.

Sorkin, who won the A singles title at the Middlebury Invitational two weeks ago, defeated Western New England's Hippolyte Bonnet 6-1, 6-0 in his opening match Friday. He then advanced past Wesleyan's Adrian Roji 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 in the round of 32. Seeded sixth in the singles bracket, Sortin will play Stanley Morris from Middlebury at noon on Saturday in the round of 16.

Niemiec and Pentousis were 8-4 winners over Josh Quijano and Pieter Wernink from Bates in the opening doubles round. They will play Bowdoin's pair of Jerry Jiang and Justin Wang on Saturday at 9 am in the round of 16.

Tufts sophomore Carl-Herman Grant also won a singles match on Friday, taking his opener 6-3, 6-3 against Justin Patel from Bowdoin. However, Grant lost in the next round to Kevin Ma of Amherst.

Jumbo junior Ben Biswas and freshman Isaac Gorelik lost first-round singles matches on Friday, as did Sorkin and Grant in doubles.
