Men's Tennis Advances to Semis at Wallach Invitational in 1 Singles, 2 Doubles Flights

Freshman Jack Moldenhauer will play in the C singles semifinals on Sunday

LEWISTON, MAINE – Freshman Jack Moldenhauer in singles and the doubles teams of sophomores Niko Hereford with Carl-Herman Grant and senior co-captain Ross Kamin with freshman Paris Pentousis played into the semi-final rounds at the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates College on Saturday.

On the first day of the tournament Saturday, the Jumbos had two players in each of the four singles brackets as well as two duos in the two doubles brackets. Head coach Karl Gregor's team had success overall with five total wins in doubles and eight in singles for 13 total.

Moldenhauer will play Amherst College's Damien Ruparel in the C flight semi-finals on Sunday. The Jumbo freshman defeated Bowdoin's Evan Fortier in a round of 16 match on Saturday 6-4, 6-2. He then advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 quarterfinal win against host Bates' Wilder Geier.

In A doubles, Hereford and Grant teamed up to win twice on Saturday. They knocked out Jason Keye and Travis Leaf from Skidmore 8-6 in the round of 16. Into the quarterfinals, the Jumbos moved past Peter Wernink and Alex Kennedy from Bates 8-5. The Tufts duo will face Amherst's Sean Wei and Zach Bessette in the semis on Sunday.

Kamin and Pentousis will also play an Amherst pair in Sunday's B doubles semifinals as they take on Jesse Levitin and Kevin Ma. Tufts' wins on Saturday came against Eliot Rozovsky and Luke Carstens of Bowdoin 8-7 (6) in the round of 16, then versus Noah Williamson and Suraj Mahtani from Skidmore 8-4 in the quarters.

Junior Ben Biswas, junior Nathan Niemiec, Grant, junior Ethan Bershtein, junior Jason Scanlon and Kamin all won once in singles on Saturday. The doubles team of Niemiec with Bershtein also had a victory in the round of 32 on Saturday.
