Sorkin Wins Opening Match at 2018 ITA Cup in DIII Singles

ROME, Ga. – Sophomore Boris Sorkin of the Tufts University men's tennis team won his opening match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup on Thursday in Georgia.

Playing in the Division III singles championship draw, Sorkin defeated Jack Trondson of Hamline University in the quarterfinals today 6-4, 6-1.

Seeded fourth in the tournament, Sorkin will play #1 seed Jonathan Jemison from Emory University in the semi-finals on Friday at 9 a.m. Jemison defeated Ethan Hillis of Washington-St. Louis 6-1, 6-0 in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Sorkin is in Georgia after winning the 2018 ITA New England title against Bowdoin College's Jerry Jiang at Middlebury College on September 30. The Jumbos is among the ITA's nine regional champions who are competing for the organization's national singles championship this week. Trondson was the ITA Midwest champ and Jemison won the ITA South title.

On the other side of the men's DIII singles bracket today, Alan Dubrovsky from Hobart and Chad Leduff from UC-Santa Cruz both won and will face each other in the semi-finals tomorrow.

The competition is being held at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.
