Women's Basketball Plays Bowdoin Tonight with Final Four Trip on the Line

MEDFORD - The Tufts University women's basketball team will face Bowdoin College for the third time this season tonight at the University of Scranton (Pa.) in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Championship. Start time is 6 p.m.

Both NESCAC teams advanced with Sweet 16 wins on Friday night in Pennsylvania. The Jumbos dismantled Messiah 70-39, while the Polar Bears took down the host Lady Royals 66-54. With Amherst College winning their Sweet 16 game on Friday night against Montclair State 51-40, three NESCAC teams are among the Elite Eight.

Tufts (26-4) and Bowdoin (27-2) will be playing for a berth into the NCAA Final Four next weekend (March 16-17). The semifinals and final will be conducted at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota, hosted by Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.

Head coach Carla Berube's Jumbos are aiming for their fifth consecutive berth into the Final Four. Bowdoin, which is returning to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2007, is seeking its second Final Four berth. Now coached by Adrienne Shibles, the Polar Bears last went to the Final Four in 2004.

The teams have split their two previous match-ups this season. Bowdoin won the regular-season game in Brunswick, Maine by a 66-53 score on January 6. The Jumbos gained revenge along with a berth into the NESCAC final with a 60-48 victory at Amherst in the conference semi-finals on February 24.

Tonight's winner will play either Wartburg or East Texas Baptist in the NCAA semi-finals next Friday night in Minnesota. Amherst versus Rochester and Hope against Thomas More are the Elite Eight games on the other side of the bracket.
