MEDFORD - The Tufts University women's tennis team on Tuesday earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete honors for 2018.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter-winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018). The Tufts team achieved a 3.321 mark this year.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter-winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year). The five Jumbos recognized were Tomo Iwasaki, Lauren Louks, Zoe Miller, Otilia Popa and Margaret Shea.
Head coach Kate Bayard's Tufts team advanced to the regional final in the NCAA Tournament this past spring. The Jumboms hosted a Regional for the second straight year.finished the year with a 10-6 record and were #22 in the final ITA Division III national poll.
