MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University women's cross country team was named a 2017 NCAA DIII All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Six Jumbos earned the award as individuals as well.
For a team to be considered for the honor, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional and have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos finished the season with a 3.62 GPA.
Olivia Barnett, Natalie Bettez, Carly Curcuru, Lydia Heely, Margot Rashba, and Johanna Ross were the six members of the team who were named All-Academic individuals. To be considered, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
This is Bettez's second time earning the recognition, while everyone else is being recognized for the first time.
John Hopkins was named the NCAA DIII Women's Scholar Team of the Year for the second year in a row and the fifth time in six seasons. Khia Kurtenbach from U. of Chicago was named the Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year with a 3.85 GPA.
