Melissa was the national runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event at the NCAA Division III Women’s Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina on May 28 with a school-record 10:31.82 time. She engaged in a tremendous steeplechase race with Wartburg College sophomore Aubrie Fisher. The pair was never more than a second apart throughout the 3,000 meters. At the final barrier, Fisher used a last burst to pass Rowland and post a 10:30. 46 winning time. Rowland's remarkable race was over four seconds faster than the previous Jumbo record of 10:36.04 run by Amy Wilfert in 2011. It was also eight seconds faster than the 10:39.90 Rowland qualified with which was the fastest time in the country for the 2021 regular-season. The performance in the last meet of her career was the first All-American honor for Rowland.
