24 Jumbo Student-Athletes Earn Tufts Academic Awards for 2019-20

MEDFORD -  Each year, Tufts applauds the accomplishments of hundreds of students, both graduate and undergraduate, who win awards and prizes sponsored by generous donors and various academic departments. For the 2019-20 academic year, 24 of the recipients are affiliated with Jumbo Athletics. Most are current members of Tufts teams, including those seniors who will graduate soon. Some are former student-athletes who participated earlier in their Tufts careers. We salute them all:

Armenia, Jillian F. (former Rowing)
Thomas Harrison & Emily Leonard Carmichael Prize Scholarship - given to assist and academically able junior or senior who has shown the ability in physiological psychology or general physiology.

Baldwin, Lillian H. (Lacrosse)
Lewis F. Manly Memorial Prize - awarded to an undergraduate of Tufts University who combines a record of academic excellence with superior athletic performance, with preference given to an economics major where there is a choice among otherwise highly qualified candidates. 

Bershtein, Ethan R. (Tennis)
Alex Elias Memorial Prize Scholarship - presented to juniors or seniors who best display high standards in community activities and in athletic and scholarly pursuits for which Alex Elias was well known. 

Bichon, Juliette A. (Swimming)
Frederick M. and Dorie Ellis Prize -  awarded to a student who has demonstrated marked athletic versatility, a modest manner, successful academic achievement, and the potential for effective leadership of youth.

Blackshaw, Lily (Track & Field)
Alex Elias Memorial Prize Scholarship - presented to juniors or seniors who best display high standards in community activities and in athletic and scholarly pursuits for which Alex Elias was well known. 

Cancemi, Cassandra N. (Softball)
R. M. Karapetoff Cobb Chemistry Fund - given to the chemistry student at the end of the junior year with the highest academic standing.

Clarke, Madeleine E. (Rowing)
Alex Elias Memorial Prize Scholarship - presented to juniors or seniors who best display high standards in community activities and in athletic and scholarly pursuits for which Alex Elias was well known. 

Cooper, Benjamin (Football, former Track & Field)
Pauline and Peter Kozachok Prize Fund - for an outstanding undergraduate student studying Russian Language or Russian Literature within the Russian Program at Tufts University.

Duisberg, Grace W. (Rowing)
Boston Greek Prize - presented by the Tufts Department of Classical Studies.

Fabrycky, Grace K. (Rowing)
Alex Elias Memorial Prize Scholarship - presented to juniors or seniors who best display high standards in community activities and in athletic and scholarly pursuits for which Alex Elias was well known. 

Furash, Rachel (Volleyball)
Bennett Memorial Scholarship - awarded to students who best exemplify the qualities of true sportsmanship as exhibited by the man whose name it bears.

Gates, Brianna R. (former Fencing)
Pauline and Peter Kozachok Prize Fund - for an outstanding undergraduate student studying Russian Language or Russian Literature within the Russian Program at Tufts University.

Gladkova, Taissa (Diving)
Audrey Butvay Gruss Science Award - awarded annually, with preference for a female student, to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding academic work in any of the sciences and who is a scholarship recipient. 

Goetcheus, Grace A. (Swimming)
Frederick M. and Dorie Ellis Prize - awarded to a student who has demonstrated marked athletic versatility, a modest manner, successful academic achievement, and the potential for effective leadership of youth.

Gronet, Timothy M. (Swimming)
Frederick M. and Dorie Ellis Prize - awarded to a student who has demonstrated marked athletic versatility, a modest manner, successful academic achievement, and the potential for effective leadership of youth.

Hofheinz, Olivia A. (former Track & Field)
Max Tishler Prize Scholarship - given to outstanding science (chemistry) student entering senior year.

Martin, Olivia G. (Track & Field)
Samuels Prize - given to a junior in Mechanical Engineering with overall achievement and with recommendation from the chair of the Mechanical Engineering department.

Class Of 1898 Prize - awarded annually to the student in each of the three undergraduate colleges who, having completed at least two years at Tufts, has best demonstrated both high scholarly ability and a wide range of intellectual interest and competence.

Mills, Justin R. (Baseball)
Alex Elias Memorial Prize Scholarship - presented to juniors or seniors who best display high standards in community activities and in athletic and scholarly pursuits for which Alex Elias was well known. 

Rowland, Melissa C. (Track & Field)
Harry Poole Burden Prize - for one of the best design or research projects done by electrical engineering undergraduate students during the current academic year.

Stern, Drew F. (Soccer)
Chinese Program Alumni Prize - recognizes academic excellence and effort in Chinese language and culture, and awarded to seniors who will use the fund to further their Chinese studies.

Stewart, Madeleine C. (Volleyball)
Constantine Ghikas Prize In Romance Languages - given for excellence in a program of major study in Romance languages.

Tasker, William (Soccer)
Lewis F. Manly Memorial Prize - awarded to an undergraduate of Tufts University who combines a record of academic excellence with superior athletic performance, with preference given to an economics major where there is a choice among otherwise highly qualified candidates. 

Wind, Walker E. (former Squash)
Vincent Manno Leadership Award - given annually to a Mechanical Engineering or Human Factors student who has excelled in a leadership role. Demonstrated leadership may be related to a class project (e.g. senior design), or to on-campus clubs and competitions sponsored by technical societies.

Wurts, Taylor N. (Track & Field)
Frederick M. and Dorie Ellis Prize - awarded to a student who has demonstrated marked athletic versatility, a modest manner, successful academic achievement, and the potential for effective leadership of youth.
