Krikorian and Cano Named Tufts Athletes of the Week

MEDFORD - Graduate student Beth Krikorian of the field hockey team and senior Mati Cano of the men's soccer team were named Jumbo Athletes of the Week today.

Krikorian scored four goals in a pair of Tufts victories against good non-conference opponents last week. After recording the final goal in a 4-0 victory over 20th-ranked MIT on Tuesday, she notched her second career hat trick versus Endicott as part of a 6-1 win on Saturday. She scored 2:40 into the game to give Tufts an early lead, then added her second on a corner with time expired in the first half to put the Jumbos up 3-0 heading into intermission. Her third goal gave the hosts a 6-0 advantage. Krikorian was a threat all week with 11 shots, including eight in the Endicott game. Behind her leadership, third-ranked Tufts is 3-0 (1-0 NESCAC).

Cano tallied three goals and one assist in the Jumbos' victories over Wesleyan (2-1) on Tuesday and Brandeis (4-0) on Saturday. His goal against the Cardinals gave Tufts a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute. He then figured in three out of the four goals scored at Brandeis with two goals and an assist. He again scored the first goal in the fourth minute and then added another early in the second half for a 3-0 Jumbo margin. Cano has points in three of Tufts' four games, helping the #1 Jumbos get off to a 4-0 start (2-0 NESCAC).
