MEDFORD - This coming Saturday (Oct. 16) is a busy one for the Tufts University fall teams as field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball all play important NESCAC games on campus. In addition to the exciting action, all five teams will be playing for a cause.
Organized by Tufts' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Jumbos are hosting their annual "Play for P.I.N.K." Day on Saturday. Play for P.I.N.K. benefits the Living Beyond Breast Cancer organization which is dedicated to giving people with breast cancer longer lives and better outcomes, donating 100% of funds raised to breast cancer research.
The Jumbos will be doing their part as SAAC representatives will be collecting donations and selling T-shirts at concessions at each of the home games - Field Hockey vs. Amherst at Ounjian Field (12 noon), Women's Soccer vs. Amherst at Bello Field (12 noon), Football vs. Wesleyan at Ellis Oval (1:30 pm) and Volleyball vs. Middlebury at Cousens Gym (1:30 pm).
Additionally, all Tufts teams will be wearing pink warm-up shirts, shoelaces, tape, and other items to show their support.
"We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer one way or another and together through SAAC we think it is so important to come together as an athletics community to show our support of such an amazing cause," said Tufts SAAC President and women's soccer tri-captain Stephanie DiLeo. "Play for P.I.N.K. has been SAAC’s most successful fund-raiser in past years, so we are looking forward to continuing that success with a fun weekend of competition and continued support for the fight against breast cancer."
Each Jumbo team also has a JustGiving fund-raising page where people can donate. The link to the LinkTree website which has all of the Tufts teams' donation links is https://linktr.ee/Tuftssaac.
