MEDFORD - The 2021 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) / Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region teams have been announced in all eight regions and Jumbos Clay Sowell and Brendan McFall have been recognized for New England.
Sowell, already a NESCAC first team and D3baseball All-New England first team selection this spring, adds an ABCA All-New England first team honor to his resume. McFall, who was All-NESCAC second team, is also on the second team of the ABCA All-New England announcement.
With a .404 batting average, Sowell led the NCAA Regional finalists Jumbo team in hitting this spring. The sophomore catcher also was first on the team and in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with 25 runs batted in, an amount he produced in 15 games for a stellar 1.67 rbis per game mark. Sowell is the only NESCAC player on the ABCA All-Region first team.
McFall finished the year with a 3-1 record and an exceptional 1.19 earned run average, allowing just four earned runs in 30.1 innings. The 6'2", 215-pound righty compiled an equally-impressive 0.79 walks and hits per innings pitched ratio (24 / 30). Through May 31 he ranked second in New England for era and fourth in WHIP. McFall is the only NESCAC pitcher recognized on the ABCA All-Region teams.
Tufts finished 15-8 under ABCA Hall of Fame head coach John Casey in this 38th season. Tufts won the NESCAC East Division flag and played in the conference final as well as for the Regional championship.
