MEDFORD - Assistant coaches Michael MacDonald and Tino Lopes have joined the Tufts University football staff during the summer. MacDonald will be the Special Teams Coordinator and also work with the tight ends. Lopes will coach the defensive line. Both have New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) backgrounds.
MacDonald is a 2013 graduate of Hamilton College. He has previous coaching stints at Middlebury College (2016-21) and Dickinson College (2015-16). A linebacker at Hamilton, he was a two-time All-NESCAC selection who ranked third in the NESCAC with 82 tackles as a senior. He finished his Hamilton career with 301 tackles, one of just two players to post 300 or more for the Continentals. Originally from Glen Ridge, New Jeresey, MacDonald attended Seton Hall Prep.
Lopes was previously the quarterbacks coach at Bates College from 2016-21. He has been coaching since 2012. He's also held roles at Amherst College (2015-16), Springfield College - where he was a graduate assistant coach from 2013-15 and at Becker College (offensive intern from 2012-13).
