Golf Finishes 5th at Williams Spring Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN - The Tufts golf team finished fifth out of nine teams at the Williams Spring Invitational which wrapped up on Sunday. The Jumbos' four best scores on both Saturday and Sunday totaled to 309 strokes for a 618 team total.

The Jumbos' 309 score on Sunday was second-best among the nine teams. Their 618 total overall was fifth behind tournament champion and host Willims College (602), runner-up Middlebury College (604), and third-place Trinity (612) and Hamilton (612). The par-71 Taconic Golf Club hosted the event.

Tufts' scorers on Sunday were Travis Clauson with a four-over 75, Kemp Bassett (pictured) and Jack Meehan with six-over 77s and an 80 from Adam Schwimmer.

Clauson's two-day 150 tied for fifth overall, while Bassett tied for 10th with his 154 tournament score (77-77). Meehan was tied for 20th with a 157 two-day score. A total of 57 golfers played this weekend.

Williams College's Ben Sapovits won medalist honors with a two-day 146 (72-74).

The Jumbos will play in the NESCAC Championship hosted by Hamilton College at Yahnundasis Golf Club next weekend.
