Meehan is Medalist, Team is 2nd at NESCAC Men's Golf Championship

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. - Sophomore Jack Meehan shot a three-under par 68 today to vault him to medalist honors at the 2022 NESAC Men's Golf Championship, where the Tufts University team placed second out of 10.

Played at the par-71 Yahnundasis Golf Course, Meehan added today's 68 to a 75 on Saturday for a two-round total of 143 that won the tournament. He had been tied for fourth after Saturday's round. Meehan won by two strokes over Amherst College's Steven Chen (75-70-145).

The Jumbos' four-best scores on Sunday added up to a 301 team total. Along with their 308 strokes from Saturday, they had a 609 final score for the tournament. Tufts finished four strokes ahead of third-place Middlebury College (309-304-613). Host Hamilton College was the best team on both teams and won the conference championship with a 597 final score (300-297).

Joining Meehan as Tufts' four-best today were senior Adam Schwimmer with a 77, and senior Travis Clauson and junior Kemp Bassett with 78's. Junior Ben Blase was Tufts' fifth golfer and shot 80 on Sunday.

Despite being the team's fifth scorer on Sunday, Blase had led the Jumbos with his 73 on Saturday and his two-round total of 153 tied for ninth individually. Clauson (155) tied for 14th in the individual competition.

Hamilton earns the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Divsiion III Golf Tournament.
