The Jumbos were down 7-2 early in the fist half, but would go on a 7-0 run capped by a Firempong lay-in with 15:04 to play. It was then back and forth play until Tufts went on a run of their own to earn an eight-point lead on a trey by Smith to make the score 23-15 with 8:38 left in the half. The Jumbos would hold a 34-30 lead heading into the locker room.
In the second half, Tufts held on to its lead and got a boost of energy when Sabety slammed home a one-handed dunk off a pass from Cohen for a 44-40 lead.
The Engineers would not go away as they managed to come within one point when Frankel drove to the net for a lay-up with 4:40 remaining in the game and the score at 61-60.
However, the Jumbos went on a 16-1 run in the final four minutes of the game sparked by Folliard's back-to-back three-pointers.
Tufts held the edge in shooting percentage (52% to 41%) and a slight advantage in rebounds (33-30).
The Jumbos return to action on Tuesday, December 3 when they travel to WPI for a 7 pm game. MIT hosts Rhode Island College Saturday at 1 pm.
