MEDFORD – The Tufts men's basketball team used a strong second half, including 15 second-half points from sophomore Tyler Aronson to pick up a 73-63 win over visiting MIT on Tuesday night in Cousens Gym.

The win helps the Jumbos improve to 5-0 this season. MIT falls to 3-3 with the loss.
Junior Brennan Morris put the Jumbos on the board first with a three. After the teams traded baskets the Jumbos got a jumper and a layup from senior Eric Savage to take a five-point lead, 11-6, just under six minutes into the game. MIT got a three from Alex Cho, and then another from Ian Hinkley put the Engineers ahead, 12-11. The two teams would trade baskets and the lead for the next five minutes.
With things locked at 24 with just over three minutes left in the half MIT got a three-point play from Dan Pilsbury with a layup and the made free throw after. The Jumbos answered with a layup from sophomore Carson Cohen and then two free throws from Savage gave the Jumbos a 28-27 advantage. A jumper from Cho put the Engineers on top again, and then Savage once again tied things with a free throw. Both teams made two free throws in the final minute, and the teams went into the break with the score locked at 33.
Aronson made a jumper to start the second half, but the Engineers evened the score at 35 with a layup from Pilsbury. Aronson followed that with a three, and the Jumbos would not surrender the lead after that. After a jumper from Ian Hinkley brought the Engineers within one, Aronson added a layup and Cohen followed it with one of his own. A layup from Rogers put the Jumbos ahead seven, 44-37, just over five minutes into the second half.
MIT got within one again, thanks to a three and a made free throw from Hinkley and a layup from Christien Williams. The two teams traded baskets, and ahead 46-45, the Jumbos made seven consecutive free throws to take a 53-45 lead. Rogers added a layup to put the Jumbos ahead ten, 55-45, with just over eight minutes left in the game. The Jumbos would lead by as many as 13 on their way to the 73-63 win.
Aronson led the Jumbos with 19 points, 15 of those coming in a critical second half for the Jumbos. He also added a couple rebounds and a couple of assists. Savage finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, along with four assists. Cohen added 12 points, four assists and a couple of steals. Morris finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Rogers tallied six points and 12 rebounds, along with five blocks.
Pilsbury led the MIT offense with 16 points and he also added 13 rebounds. Hinkley finished with 14 points and ten boards, along with a couple of assists and two blocks. Alex Cho turned in nine points, and Grant Miller collected eight points and seven rebounds.
The Jumbos are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to WPI for a 7 pm tip off with the Engineers. MIT travels to Keene State on Saturday for a 1 pm start.
