Men's Rowing 3V8 Defeats Pair of Williams Teams on Opening Day at Malden River

Peter Malinovsky helped stroke the Jumbo 3V8 to a pair of wins over Williams today.

MALDEN – The Tufts University men's rowing team's third varsity eight defeated a pair of Williams College teams in the Jumbo season-opener on Saturday at Malden River.

Facing the Ephs' 3V8 in the semi-finals, Tufts rowed 6:21.22 for a better than eight-second margin of victory as Williams finished in 6:29.77. Going against Williams' fourth varsity in the final, the Jumbos won again 6:26.16 to 6:54.59.

For the Tufts 3V8, coxswain John DiGiacomo, stroke Peter Malinovsky, 7 Henry Ross, 6 Paul Gelhaus, 5 Ethan Donnelly, 4 Malcolm Zuckerman, 3 Mitch Koganski, 2 Tamas Takata and bow Aidan Bauer were the Jumbo starters.

In the second varsity eight competition Tufts lost its semi-final race, but won the consolation. The Jumbos' 6:22.35 was eight-plus seconds in arrears to Williams' 6:13.78 in the semis. Tufts edged Coast Guard in a great consolation match 6:24.98 to 6:26.40.

The Jumbo second varsity eight sat coxswain Tara Curran with stroke Matias Facciuto, 7 Harris Hardiman-Mostow, 6 Rich Gilland, 5 Jordan Bacher, 4 Matt Agurcia, 3 Ted Midthun, 2 David Gantt and bow Samson Braun.

Tufts' first varsity eight lost both of its races on Saturday. They were six seconds behind Williams (5:59.84 to 6:05.24) and three seconds off Coast Guard (6:07.37 to 6:10.16).

Tufts' 1V8 had a boating of coxswain James Grant, stroke Rick Boer, 7 James Miller, 6 Nick Hartman, 5 Alex Williams, 4 Isaac Mudge, 3 Mats Edwards, 2 Ryan Bell and bow Alec Whipple.

The Jumbos will host Bates, Wesleyan and UMass at Malden River next Saturday.
