CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University men's and women's rowing teams had four eights competing at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) on Saturday.
The top finisher for Tufts was in the Men's Club Eights event, in which the Jumbo 2021-22 second varsity eight competed. They were 18th in a 35-team race with a 15:44.222 time across the three-mile HOCR course. Competing for Tufts was stroke Nicolas Briano (pictured), 7 Nick Kuranda, 6 Charlie Guerra, 5 Gonzalo Escajadillo, 4 Corbin Steck, 3 James Luck, 2 Drew Niles, and bow George Lakis, with coxswain Rachel Weinberg.
Tufts' 2021-22 women's third varsity rowed in the Women's Club Eights event today and placed 27th of 31. Their time of 18:43.914 was combined on by stroke Natalie Graham, 7 Eden Simko, 6 Elizabeth Johnson, 5 Alicia Coble, 4 Rachel Wagner, 3 Astrid Larson, 2 Athena Ohnemus, and bow Georgia Butler, with coxswain Sophie Novitsky.
The Jumbo programs also had entries in Men's Alumni Eights and Women's Alumnae Eights. The men - stroke Harris Hardiman-Mostow, 7 Mitchell Koganski, 6 Rick Boer, 5 Ryan Bell, 4 Dean Ericksen, 3 James Miller, 2 Matthew Agurcia, and bow Peter Malinovsky, with current member Logan McLennan as coxswain - raced 35th out of 46 teams with a 16:52.483 finishing mark. Tufts' women were 39th of 47 in the Alumnae Race (19:32.790), with a line-up of stroke Lindsay Naber, 7 Laurel Haeger, 6 Madeleine Clarke, 5 Grace Duisberg, 4 Abigail Henne, 3 Danielle Kaden, 2 Jiana Schnabel, and bow Risa Williams, with coxswain Annelise Ryan.
On Sunday, the Jumbos will be in action for the Men's Collegiate Eights (2:05 pm), the Women's Collegiate Eights (2:30 pm) and the Men's Collegiate Fours (2:58 pm). Tufts has two entries in the women's race.
