PITTSFIELD - Top-ranked Williams College won three of its four races against second-ranked Tufts University today on Onota Lake.
The top two teams in the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association met for varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight and fourth varsity eight races today. The MIT Lightweight team competed in the first three races.
Tufts' lone win came in the fourth varsity race, 6:45.90 to 6:52.97. The Jumbo eight was guided by Tara Curran and included Akash Maney, Kenan Oktay, Chris Millay, Peter Battle, Nick Gravenites (pictured), Griffin Hardy, Ian Knightly and James Luck.
The first varsity eight race was decided by five seconds as Williams timed 6:00.07 to a 6:05.07 mark for the Jumbos. MIT was third (6:05.40). Starting for Tufts was Rachel Halliday (cox), Nick Kuranda, Alex Maykel, Max Landers, Ryan Hankins, Eoghan Downey, Alex Williams, John Griffin and Henry Ross.
The Ephs were a similar distance ahead of Tufts in the second varsity eight race, 6:14.00 to 6:21.84 with MIT crossing the finish line in 6:24.39. Rachel Weinberg was coxswain for an eight of Drew Niles, George Lakis, Nick Briano, Spenser Walsh, Corbin Steck, David Gantt, Teddy Schneider and Ryan Kane.
Williams took the third varsity eight contest by the largest margin, rowing a 6:32.05 to Tufts' 6:44.84 and MIT's 6:53.65. Logan McLennan, Joey Montalto, Charlie Guerra, Will Rubin, Gonzalo Escajadillo, Henry Gray, Alden Taylor, Andrew Fisher and Brendan McHugh comprised the Tufts line-up.
The New England Rowing Championships await next Saturday for the Jumbos.
