MEDFORD - Three members of the Tufts University men's rowing team which finished third in the conferene for 2022 are on the All-NESCAC Teams announced today.
Sophomore John Griffin (pictured) and junior Alex Maykel were selected to the 10-man first team, and freshman Max Landers was put on the second team. It's the second straight year Griffin has been recognized as a first-teamer. The accolade is the first from the conferene for Maykel and Landers.
The conference championship results were determined by finishes at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) on Lake Quinsigamond May 8. Tufts was one of three NESCAC teams which made the grand final that day, and their 6:02.521 time was behind Williams and Bates. The Jumbos were sixth overall in the grand final. In the first varsity line-up at NIRC, Landers stroked, Maykel sat seven seat and Griffin was two seat.
Tufts had been second among NESCAC teams, ahead of Bates, at the New England Rowing Championships on May 1 with the All-Conference honorees in the same seats. The Jumbos also had a regular-season win against Bates.
The Jumbos, coached by George Munger, earned an at-large berth into the first-ever Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Division III Championship coming up June 3-4 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.
