Men's Rowing Finishes as National Runner-Up at IRA Championship

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - In a close race for second place, Tufts University Men's Rowing's first varsity eight powered past Trinity College to finish as the national runner-up at the 2022 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Division III Championship Satudray on Mercer Lake.

Williams College won the IRA DIII title with a 5:47.239 time across the 2,000-meter course. The Jumbos were second in a 5:50.571 time, a half-second in front of third-place Trinity College (5:51.075).

Through 1500 meters, it was Trinity who had the half-second lead on Tufts with a 4:23.770 mark to the Jumbos' 4:24.210. However, down the stretch Tufts turned it around to finish in second place ahead of the Bantams. Behind the top three squads, Bates was fourth, Hamilton was fifth, WPI was sixth and Washington College placed seventh. This was the first-ever Division III Championship at IRA's.

Racing for Tufts' first varsity today was Rachel Halliday (cox), Nick Kuranda, David Gantt, Max Landers, Alex Williams, John Griffin, Ryan Hankins, Eoghan Downey and Henry Ross.

Tufts also competed in the varsity 4+ fourth final today. They were fifth out of six in the race with a 6:57.635 time. The Jumbo four had Rachel Weinberg (cox), George Lakis, Harrison Sweet, Spenser Walsh and Teddy Schneider.

This marks the end of the 2021-22 Year in Athletics at Tufts competitively.
