Harry Charlton Wins First NESCAC Men's Squash Player of the Week Award

MEDFORD - Tufts University sophomore Harry Charlton is the New England Small College Athletic Conference's (NESCAC) first Player of the Week of the 2021-22 season for men's squash.

The sophomore Jumbo made his collegiate debut over the weekend for head coach Joe Raho's team. Playing in the #1 position, Charlton won matches against Hamilton's Tate Suratt and Hobart's Mohamed Abdelhalfez. His success at the top of the order helped the Jumbos defeat the Continentals 9-0 and the Statesmen 8-1.

Against Suratt on Friday night, Charlton won a competitive first game 11-9 and then finished off the victory by 11-4 and 11-6 scores. He then needed to come from behind to win on Saturday against Abdelhafez. After losing the first game 11-8, Charlton strung together 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 wins to take the match.

This actually gives Tufts men's squash two NESCAC weekly honors in a row. Charlton's teammate Sanjeev Jeyabalan won the last time it was presented on February 3, 2020. The awards weren't given in 2020-21 due to the season being canceled.

From Bronxville, New York, Charlton's twin brother Sam also plays for Tufts.

Tufts plays next versus Harvard on November 30 at Tufts Squash Center.
