Track & Field Teams Hosting 3rd Annual Branwen Smith-King Invitational This Weekend

Branwen Smith-King

MEDFORD - The Jumbo men's and women's indoor track & field teams will host the third annual Branwen Smith-King Invitational at the Gantcher Center on Friday and Saturday.

Upon her retirement in 2017 following 35 years as a coach and administrator for Tufts Athletics, the department and the track & field programs renamed the second home meet of the indoor season in Smith-King's honor. Hired in 1982, she became one of the most influential women in the history of Tufts Athletics, mentoring hundreds of student-athletes as the head coach of women's cross-country and track and field teams for 18 years and as assistant director of Tufts Athletics since 2000.

A men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon were added to the meet in 2019. Those will start on Friday at 4 pm, with the pentathlon finishing that evening and the final heptathlon events taking place first-thing Saturday. The full meet schedule will begin on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

The field of competitors will include student-athletes from Amherst, Bates, Bentley, Bowdoin, Brandeis, Bridgewater State, Coast Guard, Colby, Colby-Sawyer, Connecticut College, Emmanuel, Fitchburg State, Keene State, MIT, Plymouth State, Regis, Smith, St Joseph's (Maine), Suffolk, Trinity, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth, Wentworth, Wheaton, Worcester State and WPI

The meet will feature team scoring. Live results will be available at http://www.jumbocast.net/livestats/track/. Visit GoTuftsJumbos.com for complete results after the conclusion of the meet.
