Gatti's 5K Tops Men's Track & Field Performances In Home Quad Meet Win

MEDFORD - Four Jumbos notched Tufts season-bests today as the Jumbo men's track & field team hosted and won a quad meet against Connecticut College, Trinity and Wesleyan at Ellis Oval / Dussault Track.

The Jumbos compiled a 215 team score, far ahead of second-place Trinity (106). Wesleyan was third (96) and Connecticut College scored fourth (66). Middlebury College also had some competitors at the meet, but did not compete as a team.

In a good 5,000 meters field today, Tufts junior Sam Gatti PR'd by 23 seconds with his 14:49.84 time that was fourth out of 28 finishers in the race. Gatti's mark is at the #45 national spot as of Saturday evening.

Sophomore Willy White chopped a half-second off his career-best 110-meter hurdles mark today with a 15.30 time that won a three-man race. Junior Alexander Zsikla had Tufts' best triple jump of 2021 (42'9 ½" / 13.04) and freshman Louis Tuccio topped out at 113'6" (34.61m) in the discus throw for a Tufts 2021 best.

Luke Botsford continued his winning ways in the 200 (22.11) and 400 (49.74) meters today. The freshman has now won eight times in four weekends of collegiate competition. Other Jumbos scoring first-place points today include Jackson Hemphill in the pole vault at 12'9 ½" (3.90m) and Drew Svoboda in the long jump with a 21'10 ¼" (6.66m) mark that is the sophomore's collegiate best.

The Tufts Invitational will be held at Dussault Track next Saturday.
