Haghdan Receives Academic All-District® Honor in Softball

MEDFORD - Recent Tufts University graduate Kristina Haghdan has been selected to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA.

Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom, the CoSIDA Academic All-District® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Haghdan is one of 12 players on the NCAA Division III District I (Massachusetts and Maine) Team.

Haghdan is the only New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) softball player to receive the honor in 2021. This is the ninth straight year that a Jumbo softball player has been recognized with an Academic All-District® honor, with a total of 12 Tufts players achieving the award during that time.

From Pelham, New Hampshire, Haghdan graduated with a biology degree in May. As the team's #1 pitcher, she helped head coach Lauren Ebstein's Jumbos win NESCAC and NCAA Regional Championships. Tufts then went on to play in the NCAA College World Series in Salem, Virginia and finished with a 21-7 record.

Haghdan was honored as NESCAC Pitcher of the Year this spring, while also receiving All-Conference first team and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region 3rd team accolades. She recorded a 1.41 earned run average and 104 strikeouts in 84.2 innings for the season. Named Most Outstanding Pitcher of the 2021 NCAA Regional won by Tufts, she posted a 0.45 era in three games. For her career as a Jumbo, Haghdan compiled a 34-13 record with a 1.66 era and 284 strikeouts in 274.1 innings during three seasons.

A Phillips Andover Academy graduate who is a three-time Academic All-NESCAC honoree (3.5 GPA+ required), Haghdan is currently working at ophthalmology clinic before starting Physician's Assistant school at Arcadia in May 2022.

Haghdan advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced later in July.
