Tufts Women Go 5-0 at Northeast Fencing Conference Meet #3

WELLESLEY - The Tufts University women's fencing team won all five of its matches at the Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Meet #3 hosted by Wellesley College today.

The Jumbos defeated Vassar 20-7, host Wellesley 18-9, Boston University 20-7, New Hampshire 27-0 and Dartmouth 24-3. The matches against New Hampshire and Dartmouth included several forfeits by both opponents.

In the wins over Vassar, Wellesley and BU, Tufts' sabre squad posted an outstanding 26-1 record. Freshmen Anat Katz and Millie Girardi (pictured) both had 9-0 sabre records in those three matches combined. Not including forfeit wins, both Katz and Girardi had 11-0 records on the day and Rachel Roh was 10-1.

In foil, Tufts won 6-3 against BU with six different fencers - Shannon Chen, Allison Cheng, Caroline Hayes, Lea Levi, Dorothy Waskow and Cheyenne Yu - adding to the victory column. Cheng's six wins were the most for Tufts in foil during the day, while Levi and Sydnee Lau both fenced to 5-1 marks.

The epee group won six out of nine against Vassar, led by two wins apiece from Olivia Tomasello and Arianna Minassian. Four wins each by Tomasello and Alexis Hedvat led the epee team overall for the day.

The Jumbos now have a 10-2 NFC record as a team for the 2021-22 season.

Tufts is scheduled to compete next at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference meet to be hosted by Brandeis University on February 26.
