MEDFORD - Freshman Riddhi Joshi of the Tufts University women's squash team will cap her debut season with the Jumbos by competing at the 2022 College Squash Association (CSA) National Collegiate Individual Championships this week. The competition is being held at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.
The #12 seed in the 16-woman Holleran Cup South Division bracket, Joshi will open the weekend against #5 seed Lujan Palacios from Trinity College with a Friday match at 10:30 AM. The winner of that contest will move on to the quarterfinals and play either #4 seed Emma Jinks from Virginia or 13th-seed Danielle Benstock from Brown. The loser of Joshi versus Palacios match falls in to the consolation bracket with a match on Friday at 4:25 PM.
The four Holleran Cup tournaments being held this weekend (North, East, South, West) represent the second division of individual players. The top 16 individuals in the nation are competing for the Ramsay Cup.
Joshi was a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Conference first team honoree this winter, one of just 10 players in the league to earn that accolade. Joshi played in the #1 position for Tufts in 14 of their 15 matches thus far in the 2021-22 season. During the season she faced two other players who are in this weekend's Hollearn South bracket. Joshi earned an 11-8, 14-12, 2-11, 8-11, 11-7 win against Rachel Mashek from Brown on January 22. She also played to a five-game results against Bates' Andrea Martagon on December 3, losing a very close 6-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-13, 11-13 match.
