Women's Tennis Falls In Singles and Doubles Finals at MIT

Casey Cummings CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University women's tennis team had players in the singles and doubles championship matches at the MIT Invitational, but lost in both on Sunday.

Freshman Elle Christensen finished an excellent debut weekend with the Tufts team, reaching the singles final and playing with junior Casey Cummings in the doubles final at MIT.

Christensen won her semifinal singles match on Sunday, defeating Sarah Pertsemlidis from MIT 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7. That put her in the final, where she fell to Wesleyan's Caitlyn Ferrante in a very close match 4-6, 6-0, 12-10.

Ferrante had defeated Tufts' Tilly Rigby 6-1, 6-3 in the semis to earn a berth in the finals.

Christensen and Cummings started Sunday with a semifinal win over Serim Jin and Sasha Gaeth from Wesleyan 8-6. Into the finals, the Jumbo duo was topped 8-2 by Amherst's #2 seed Jackie Bukzin and Mia Kintiroglu.

The Jumbos will play at the ITA Regional Championships October 1-3 at Bowdoin College.
