|Kathryn Ezeoha had the team's best triple jump of the season today|
SPRINGFIELD – Senior co-captain Kelsey Tierney ran a big PR in the mile run to top Tufts University women's indoor track & field's performances at the Springfield College Triangle Classic on Saturday.
Tierney finished second in the race with a 5:06.79 time, which improved upon her previous PR of 5:12.23 from Tufts' Branwen Smith-King Invitational on January 26 this season. Today's time was a national top 50 mark for Tierney.
Many Jumbos were resting this week in anticipation of the New England Division III Championships at Bowdoin next weekend.
Freshman Kathryn Ezeoha had the team's season-best mark of 36'3 ½" (11.06m) in the triple jump. She was second at the meet with the national top 50 distance. Other individual seconds came from senior Julia Noble in the 1,000 meters (3:08.44) and senior Caitlin Porrazzo in the 3,000 (10:50.02).
The nationally-ranked 4x4 of Tara Lowensohn, Hannah Neilon, Luana Machado and Julia Gake ran today, but did improve upon their season-best time with a 4:01.69 flat-track race. They were second in the Springfield race.
Freshman Chidiebele Ikpeazu heaved the shot put 36'10 ¼" (11.23m), 10 inches further than her previous season-best. Sophomore Olivia Schwern timed 27.19 for fourth in the 200, while classmate Olivia Steiner PR'd in the 60 dash at 8.35 seconds. Senior Paige Fielding matcher her 4'9" (1.45m) PR in the high jump.
Tufts was in action along with teams from Coast Guard, Connecticut College, MIT, Springfield, Trinity, Williams and WPI at the meet. No team scoring was kept.
