MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team had some solid early-season efforts on its second day at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Saturday.
Two of their times are national top 10 marks as of 11 pm Saturday evening. Freshman Hannah Neilon ran a time of 59.78 seconds in the 400 meters that ranks ninth. She won the third section of the event and was 16th out of 42 overall. The Jumbo all-freshman 4x4 of Tara Lowensohn, Neilon, Luana Machado and Julia Worden posted a 4:09.58 time that is 10th in DIII.
The 4x4 was the lone Jumbo event in which points were scored as they placed eighth to get three points. That tied Tufts for 15th in the team standings.
Machado also ran a 1:07.36 in the 400-meter hurdles for 13th out of 38 in the race and the #18 mark in the country. Lowensohn's 1:01.51 behind Neilon in the 400 is 30th nationally.
Tufts' first 4x100 relay of the year timed 52.15 for a #38 national mark. The foursome was Lowensohn, Machado, senior Brita Dawson and Worthen.
Senior co-captain Trish Blumeris had a PR of 34'3 ½" (10.45m) in the triple jump, which checks in at #40 on the national list. She was 16th in the event. Senior Evelyn Drake was entered in the shot put and had a best of 33'10" (10.31m).
The spring break meet for the Jumbos was hosted by Coastal Carolina University at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
