4x800 Relay Wins Women's Outdoor Track New England D3 Title with School Record

Freshman Luana Machado ran her best time in the 400 hurdles today.

WILLIAMSTOWN – The Jumbo 4x800-meter relay won the New England Division III title in a school record time on Saturday at Williams College as Tufts' women's outdoor track & field team competed at the regional championships.

In an 18-team race, Tufts' Hannah Neilon, Lauren Diaz, Julia Noble and Rhemi Toth put together a 9:09.79 time that was more than five seconds faster than runner-up Bates College (9:15.32). The mark lowered Tufts' previous standard of 9:10.63 in the event from 2009.

The Jumbos were 13th as a team at the two-day meet. They scored five points on Friday and added 19 more on Saturday for a 24 total. Host Williams College won with a 111 team score, followed by MIT (101.50) and Rhode Island College (65).

Jumbo freshman Luana Machado finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday with a team season-best 1:04.06 mark. Sophomore Nkem Aduka had a third-place finish of 122'6" (37.35m) in the discus throw.

Jumbos Julia Gake and Toth both PR'd in the 400 and 800 meters, respectively. Gake's 58.26 and Toth's 2:14.10 were also the team's best marks of the season in those events.

Toth's time is ranked 21st nationally as of Saturday evening. Machado's 400 hurdles mark is 40th on the DIII list.

The Jumbos compete at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Open Championships next weekend at Southern Connecticut State University.
