MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Tufts University volleyball team put the finishing touches on a perfect 10-0 NESCAC season by defeating Trinity College, 3-0, in the final match of the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Wesleyan University.

Tufts had won 3-1 against Wesleyan on Friday night to clinch first place in the conference, therefore becoming the host team for the NESCAC Tournament next weekend (Nov. 7-9). On Saturday against Trinity, the Jumbos put a definitive stamp on their sensational season with a 25-10 win in the third set. That followed 25-23 and 26-24 wins in the first two sets, respectively. The Jumbos improved to 27-2 overall, while Trinity fell to 13-12 overall and 2-8 in the league.

Sophomore Dawson Joyce-Mendive (Minden, NV) continued to lead the balanced Tufts line-up offensively, putting down 14 kills against Trinity. First-year Lexi Nicholas (San Diego, CA) was a two-way contributor with seven kills and four blocks (one solo). The veteran defensive presence on the Tufts team was effective again with 16 digs from senior tri-captain Natalie Goldstein (Piedmont, CA) and 12 from classmate Maya Ripecky (Chicago, IL). Senior tri-captain Kate Denniston (Tarzana, CA) and sophomore Caitlin Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) chipped in six kills apiece on attack.

The Jumbos now enter the post-season with a home-court advantage. They are the #1 seed in the NESCAC Tournament at Cousens Gym. Tufts will play #8 seed Bates College in the first round on Friday (Nov. 7) at 5:00 pm. Tufts has also been selected as the host of the NCAA Regionals on November 13-15.
